JEAN-PIERRE BLANC

“It’s the family that we’ve formed,” Blanc says, both of his team and the past participants.

Jean-Pierre Blanc dreamed up the Festival International de Mode in 1986, as part of a school project and case study for his business degree. He was 20 years old, and he wanted, he says, to “invent a moment for creative encounters that wasn’t too complicated.”

This charismatic man is the founder and director of the International Fashion and Photography Festival held every spring at Villa Noailles in Hyeres. He is also the director of Villa Noailles, a centre for art and architecture that runs exhibitions for the public. . The undeniable global success of this five day event stems from the impassioned and dogged initiative of its founder, whose enthusiasm for and understanding of fashion, sharp eye and inspirational confidence in others led to a space dedicated to creation, respiration and debate for different sectors of the fashion industry in his own hometown.

Blanc has been a conduit throughout — getting young designers in the public eye, and mixing fashion and photography upstarts with established names, in a context where “the professional contrasts are erased,” he says.

“It’s the family that we’ve formed,” Blanc says, both of his team and the past participants.
